ENYIMBA DISRUPTS ORIENTAL DERBY

Enyimba disrupts the oriental derby. The match between Enugu Rangers and Enyimba of Aba decides who wins this year’s Nigeria premier League. Notably, Rangers sit on the table with a cumulative 61 point to top its rival Enyimba of Aba with 59 points. The match which was slated to hold today was meant to decide the winner. Any team who wins stands a better chance of lifting the trophy. Significantly, the stadium has in attendance prominent Nigerians like Chief Obinna Iyiegbu (Obi Cubana), Kolaboy, Kanu Nwankwo, etc.

In view of this historic match, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium was filled to capacity with fans of both teams expectant of victory. The stadium recorded about 7,000 attendance which seems to be loud in the history of Nigerian Premier League. Fans of each teams chanted their team songs to cheer the players.

The match was fiercely contested with 0:0 score. Suprisely, Rangers were given a penalty in the 90th minute. This in the voice of Peter Drury, ‘the mighty is about to give in to pressure’. Immediately, The Enyimba protested the Penalty but the referee isn’t going to withdraw his decision. The Enyimba team quickly left the pitch. When it became obvious that they weren’t coming back to complete the match, the referee asked that the penalty be played in their absence. Immediately, the fans ran into the pitch to disrupt the pitch.

While we wait the decision of NFFA, commentators are of the opinion that Enyimba might face sanction and the whole three points given to Rangers.
