Oriental Derby disrupted

The oriental derby between Enugu Rangers and Enyimba of Aba was disrupted in a match which was to decide almost the winner of Nigeria premier League. Rangers sit on the table with a cumulative 61 point to top its rival Enyimba of Aba with 59 points. The match which was slated to hold today was the meant to decide the winner as any team that wins will lift thetrophy. The stadium has in attendance some prominent Nigerians like Chief Obinna Iyiegbu (Obi Cubana), Kolaboy, Kanu Nwankwo, etc. The Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium was filled to capacity with fans of both teams expectant of victory. The stadium recorded about 7,000 attendance which seems to be loud in the history of Nigerian Premier League.

As each team were set to kickstart what May become the ultimate decider of this year’s premier league, fans chanted their team songs to cheer the players. The match was fiercely contested with 0:0 score until the 90th minute when Rangers were given a penalty. This in the voice of Peter Drury, ‘the mighty is about to give in to pressure’. The Enyimba protested the Penalty but the referee isn’t going to withdraw his decision. The Enyimba team quickly left the pitch.

Unfortunately, when it became obvious that they aren’t coming back to complete the match, the referee asked that the penalty be played against an Enyimba empty post. Moving further, the fans of the Enyimba ran into the pitch and were greeted by that of Enugu fans who came with sticks.
